NIGERIAN OPTOMETRIC ASSOCIATION (NOA)
REQUIREMENTS FOR RECOMMENDING OR BEING RECOMMENDED FOR AWARD IN ANY OF THE CATEGORIES IN NOA.

1.     Full and up to date (2014) membership of the NOA & the ODORBN of the nominee and the member nominating.

2.     Members recommending or being recommended for other awards must be at least 5 years post graduation.

3.     Members to be nominated for Fellow of NOA must be at least of 10 years post graduation, must be of good character, dependable, disciplined and not have any adverse reports.  Nominee must demonstrate leadership qualities and must be known to be committed to and participate in NOA activities at the State and National levels.

4.      Nominations should be clear and explicit, giving reasons for nomination of member concerned, including worthy of mentioning are activities towards the uplifting of the NOA and the profession of Optometry in Nigeria.  This will include reasonable presence at NOA AGMs since graduation.
Brief CV of the nominee will be necessary.

5.     Self nomination is not allowed.

6.     Proposal should contain vey brief but detailed professionally-oriented reasons (in CV format) for nomination with proof, citing dates and venue of claims for verification where possible. 
Please do not send SMS and unnecessarily bulky details which maybe unrelated to their professional achievements.

7.      The proposers should also provide his/her own brief introduction as to their eligibility or standing in NOA and ODORBN to nominate someone. Failure to do so disqualifies the candidate being nominated

8.      Committee members are not allowed to make nominations.

9.     All Serving Executive members of Nigerian Optometric Association and Awards committee members are exempted from awards as Fellows.  

10.   A maximum of 3 (Three) Fellows of NOA will be awarded each year.

11.   All nominations must be received by midnight of the 30th of May 2014.

12. We appeal that members seeking the awards should desist from shamefacedly rally around and begging or bribing colleagues or committee members to be nominated. 
Let your work in the profession speak for itself as it is visible to others.

THE FOLLOWING CATEGORIES OF AWARDS WERE APPROVED IN 2011 @ ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF NOA:
FELLOWS.
HONORARY FELLOWS.
OPTOMETRIST OF THE YEAR.
COMMENDATIONS AWARDS.

However, the “Young Optometrist of the Year” and “Community Optometrist of the year” awards should be limited at State Levels as only the Optometrists in a particular State can truly evaluate themselves empirically as to who qualifies for such award. Consequently, the names of such awardees from each State should be forwarded to the Executive Council for publication in the Annual Conference brochure as a mark of recognition.
